Adelbert Nelissen (1948 – 2014)
Yesterday I received the sad news that Adelbert Nelissen died unexpectedly on september 6th 2014 of heart failure. Probably it was also caused by over fatigue, because Adelbert worked continuously for more then 30 years for Macrobiotics. Day and night he was there to help people if they needed his advise. It is a very big loss for the European Macrobiotic Community that Adelbert is no longer with us. Together with his wife Wieke, he founded the East West Centrum, after that the Kushi Institute of Europe, the Art of Cooking school and the Deshima Freshop.
Recently I joined his interesting lessons during the Summer Conference 2014 in Helvoirt. (I am a student of The Art of Life School and during the Summer Conference you can also join as a student.) Stern, but lovingly and sincerely he told me what not to eat anymore to get healthier. I loved his last Cooking Class about Wild Herbs and Plants he had collected. I learned a lot from his Nine Star Ki lessons. He liked to tell people not to believe anything he said, but to try it out. Non-Credo!
I am upset and shocked that this strong and super energetic man is no longer with us. He learned many how to live a healthy and happy life. Adelbert was an exceptional man; he was witty, wise, had a great sense of humor and he was a real Macrobiotic expert. He had travelled well and was first of all a family man. He could tell wonderful stories and frequently his classes ended much later than planned, because the participants wanted to know the end of his story.
Adelbert leaves his wife, 5 children and 10 grandchildren behind. I wish the family and everybody at the Kushi Institute a lot of strength to cope with this big loss. Click here to read further about his impressive life.
