Patricia Hinson (72) is a client of Megan Macgregor. Patricia is a big fan of Pilates. In this interview she explains why she loves Pilates so much! Patricia:”I will continue with Pilates as long as I am able to.”
I was impressed, not only, with the theory of Pilates but with the results.
What is you name, profession and physical condition?
My name is Patricia Hinson I am 72 years of age I live in Sydney, Australia. I am in good health aside from some arthritis especially in my right hip. I am a wife, mother to 4 children, grandmother to 1 grandson and 9 granddaughters. Before retiring I worked as a secretary to the Principal of a Secondary College. I have now been retired for 12 years and in that time have travelled extensively with my husband and friends.
When did you start with Pilates?
I have always been aware of the importance of keeping active and used to do exercise programs either at a gym or a community hall. Before my daughter was married I started a Pilates Program with a Physiotherapist (to make sure I looked alright). I was impressed, not only, with the theory of Pilates but with the results. When looking for a new Pilates Studio I discovered Pilates Pointe at Carlton about 4 years ago.
Pilates is here to stay, of that I feel sure. I will continue with Pilates as long as I am able to.
How many times per week do you do a Pilates workout?
I attend the studio twice a week and do a Mat Class and a Reformer Class. We have a maximum of 8 participants in each class. My favorite apparatus is the Reformer and I don’t think I have a favorite exercise, I enjoy the full session ( 1 hour).
Did you solve physical problems with Pilates?
Maybe I did not solve the problem, but after medical attention with my hip and Glutes my condition has improved and I feel that Pilates is keeping me fit and moveable.
My biggest tip to anyone of any age looking for a healthy lifestyle is to give Pilates a go and be surprised at the results.
What is your favorite studio and who is your trainer?
My Reformer trainer is Megan MacGregor and Tamara Rogelja is the owner of the studio and was my first trainer. I chose this studio for the convenience of travel and now would not choose another.
Did my life change since Pilates?
Yes, I think my life has changed since Pilates, I feel more confident in myself and I feel I can challenge myself more. My goal is, firstly, to stay healthy and keep my muscles and joints moving. Secondly, to firm or tone my limbs to appear healthy.
What do you think of the future of Pilates? Do you think you will continue with Pilates?
Pilates is here to stay, of that I feel sure. I will continue with Pilates as long as I am able to.
Can you explain to the readers what Pilates is and what it means to you? Do you have a tip for our readers?
Pilates is for everyone no matter what your age, shape or sex. It has taught has taught me about my body. How to hold myself. How to walk, sit, stand with the greatest efficiency. How not to tense my shoulders, slouch and most importantly how to be aware of my core. In Pilates you can exercise your whole body. In doing this I feel I have gained strength in my person, confidence in myself and it has certainly helped me to overcome the difficulties I had with my hip.
My biggest tip to anyone of any age looking for a healthy lifestyle is to give Pilates a go and be surprised at the results.
