Pilates is a Celebrity Fitness Secret

Many celebrities today train hard to maintain their physique mainly due to the demands of their roles and the industry they work in. They’re also often considered role models to the public, which is why they strive to retain their wellbeing through exercise and undergoing intensive fitness programs.

Pilates is the go-to fitness choice of numerous movie stars, as it provides an full body workout that covers all muscle groups. Some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry have been open about their devotion to Pilates, while others prefer to keep it as their very own fitness secret. So with that in mind, here are a handful of Hollywood personalities who incorporate Pilates into their training.

Cameron Diaz

The Charlie’s Angel star Cameron Diaz has long been doing Pilates, which is why she is always rocking a slim but lean and toned body. In fact, Firehaus Pilates mentioned that the actress even wrote The Body Book in which she discussed in detail how Pilates affects wellbeing. More than its physical benefits, Pilates can also aid in combatting emotional and psychological issues.

Diaz is often included in the lists of the highest paid Hollywood actresses – a designation she owes to the success of many of her action films including the aforementioned remake of Charlie’s Angels. Needless to say, her Pilates training has paid off big time.

Sofia Vergara, another actress with Latina blood, is famous for her killer bod, and according to Shape.com, much of her workout routine is centered on Pilates. She starts with her arms and legs through exercises like elevator lunges and cheerleader arms circle, and then proceeds to work on her core.

Sigourney Weaver

Sigourney Weaver is best known for starring in the Alien films, and used Pilates to strengthen her core and as well as other muscles. Celebrity Fitness Training specified that the actress regularly took Pilates sessions during shoots for the Alien movies as her role dictated that she carry heavy guns and other equipment. Aside from enhancing muscle strength, Pilates helped improve her joint mobility and even added an inch to her height due to improved posture and lean muscle development.

As a result, she was able to handle the rigors of the action role, and her character Ellen Ripley helped the first Alien films achieve pop culture status. The franchise’s popularity has since given rise to sequels and other spinoffs decades after the release of the original film. Weaver still kicked ass as Ripley in the 1997 installment Alien: Resurrection though she was essentially a clone in the story.

As the film world is very much still in love with cult status of the franchise, it has also penetrated the gaming industry through slot title Aliens from the entertainment platform BGT Games. While the slot game didn’t feature Ripley directly, the game tapped into the iconic image of the intimidating 1986 alien that terrified viewers across the globe. And it has helped keep all of the Alien universe very much relevant even today.

Of course, Ellen Ripley would not have been as iconic without Weaver’s strong presence and performance, who carried her soldier role effectively through her great physique – the result of many Pilates sessions leading up to the films.

The individuals above are only a fraction of celebrities who swear by the great effects of Pilates. Additionally, Anna Paquin, Kate Winslet, and Sandra Bullock are all devotees to this particular fitness regime.

In short, Pilates can work for anyone. Just always remember to take it easy. Although Pilates is a serious form of workout, it can be fun, too! There are lots of Pilates instructors and practitioners who have highlighted their exciting experiences in our Interviews section.
