PUTTING ON A PILATES CONFERENCE?

20 January, 2015 By Olga Tamara Leave a Comment

ConferenceTHINK ABOUT IT!  Putting together a conference is a daunting task. Good thing is you are able to show your leadership, project management, public relations, and networking skills  all at the same time. Down side is if you lack in these areas it will show!

A successful conference is great for all involved – your team gains great experience, your company or organization gets a good reputation (pending the results of course!) and delegates get to learn new things, socialize with colleagues and meet new people.

Putting on a Pilates Conference within a non for profit organization is not for light hearted especially if its being put together by a very small group of volunteers. Remember, the event will take up a lot of your personal time so make sure you’re up for the challenge!

There is so much that goes into the planning of a successful Pilates conference. The first thing I keep reminding myself is; “You just cant please everyone”!.  If you try to please everyone you can be sure you will have an event that has no real focus. I have had the pleasure but arduous task of leading a small sub committee of 5 people to produce the biannual  PAA  (Pilates Alliance Australasia)  Conference 2011, 2013 and now 2015. This will be my third and last before handing over the reins.

The planning for this event begins at least a year in advance to ensure that presenters, venue, sponsors, equipment suppliers, are  all secured well in advance so we can then get on with the finer detail.

THE TEAM: Apart from your presenters and delegates, it is important to have a great team to back you up. Who will be working with you? What will be their roles? Putting together an efficient and compatible conference committee will save you so many problems later on.

If you’re planning on organizing a conference, then make sure you give yourself time to prepare for it thoroughly. Draw a timeline based on the size and demands of your conference.

The PAA Conference is only 9 months away. I say ONLY because there is still so much to do even though venue and most of the presenters were secure 6 months ago!

We still have a long way to go!

By the way, if you’re planning on attending a great conference this year in a great country and a fantastic city then this is the one for you!

Sydney, Australia 22 – 25 October 2015.

International presenters include Brooke Siler and Sean Gallagher!

I’Il keep you posted on the progress.

Cheers

Olga Tamara
